According to CCTV, in January 23rd, the Venezuelan constitutional convention passed the proposal by former speaker Cabello, the presidential election will be held before April. He said that an early election is to further consolidate the stability brought by the previous regional elections. He also pointed out that this election is a response to the rebels' betrayal and peace talks, as well as the top officials of the US and Europe. Cabello also said the current president, Maduro, will continue to serve as a candidate for the ruling party. The specific time of the election will be announced after the election committee.
Maduro previously announced that some of the parties who boycotted the mayoral elections would not be able to take part in the presidential election. So far, the Venezuelan opposition coalition has not yet decided the final candidate.
